Receptionist (Full-Time)

Location: Central London
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Hours: Monday – Friday 47.5 hours per week (weekend support available on an ad-hoc basis)

The Role

We are seeking a professional, welcoming and highly organised Receptionist to join our Front of House Security team. As the first point of contact for visitors, contractors and colleagues, you will play a critical role in both the visitor experience and the museum's security and safeguarding policies.

The role combines exceptional customer service with vigilance, discretion and a clear understanding of safety, security and safeguarding responsibilities within a busy public venue.

This is a permanent role reporting to the Security Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Front of House

1. Provide a warm, professional and knowledgeable welcome to all staff, visitors, and contractors
2. Answer and direct telephone, email and in‑person enquiries efficiently and courteously
3. Provide accurate information about access services, facilities, events and gallery related information
4. Manage visitor check‑ins, appointments and meeting room bookings
5. Maintain a calm, organised and professional reception area at all times

Security & Safeguarding

6. Act as a visible and alert presence at reception, supporting the safety of visitors, staff, and contractors
7. Follow all museum security procedures, access controls and emergency protocols
8. Monitor entry points and report any security concerns, incidents or unusual behaviour promptly
9. Support safeguarding procedures, including awareness of responsibilities relating to children, young people and vulnerable adults
10. Escalate concerns appropriately in line with the museum's safeguarding and incident‑reporting policies
11. Work closely with security staff and Duty Management during incidents or evacuations
12. Provide support to ad-hoc out of hours events

Administrative Support

13. Support internal teams with reception‑based administrative tasks
14. Maintain accurate records, visitor logs and incident reports where required
15. Accept and organise any internal/ external post and courier deliveries/ collections.
16. Uphold confidentiality and data protection standards at all times

About You

You will be confident, approachable and observant, with excellent communication skills and a strong sense of responsibility.

Essential skills and experience:

17. SIA License, or the ability to obtain a new license
18. Experience in a receptionist, front‑of‑house or customer‑facing role
19. Strong customer service ethos with the ability to remain calm in pressured situations
20. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
21. Awareness of security, safety, and safeguarding responsibilities in a public setting
22. Strong digital confidence across Outlook, Teams, Microsoft applications, and other workplace systems

Desirable:

23. Experience working in a museum, gallery, cultural, heritage or visitor attraction environment
24. Previous experience following security or safeguarding procedures
25. Knowledge of access and inclusion best practice
26. Additional language skills
