Job Summary
An exciting opportunity for a Fixed Term (6 months) Part Time (26.25 hours) position in the audiology team providing routine assessment of adults and school age children referred to the Audiology department at Walsall Manor Hospital. The role includes patients referred directly to audiology via their G.P. or from ENT outpatient clinics, fitting hearing aids and supporting patients in use as part of rehabilitation. Services will be provided within the hospital, at outreach clinics and in patients' homes when required.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform all aspects of routine hearing assessments on adults independently, including fittings, verification, repairs, rehabilitation and counselling.
* Carry out GP referrals for the provision of hearing aids within agreed criteria, including onward referral for ENT Consultant assessment.
* Provide hearing aid fittings for NHS hearing aids including reassessments, reviews, repairs and reconditioning of hearing aid systems.
* Maintain accurate patient records in Audiology Patient Management Systems and ensure data are current.
* Ensure statistical information is collected and stock control of hearing aids is maintained.
* Assist in the receipt and dispatch of aural impressions and ear‑moulds.
* Communicate outcomes and plan treatments, overcoming barriers to communication and liaising with other primary care professionals.
* Ensure availability of up‑to‑date patient information leaflets.
* Suggest and implement improvements to services, exercising professional responsibility within an open, no‑blame culture.
Person Specification
* Essential qualifications: BSc Audiology or equivalent; AHCS/HCPC Registration.
* Desirable qualifications: Membership of BSA and/or BAA.
* Essential competencies: Knowledge and competence with all standard audiological test procedures.
* Desirable: Counselling skills.
* Essential skills and aptitudes: Excellent interpersonal skills; Excellent IT skills.
* Essential knowledge and experience: Evidence of an up‑to‑date CPD portfolio; Clinical experience in an NHS audiology department; Experience of aiding and verification using BSA protocols.
* Desirable: Use of AuditBase patient management system.
* Essential flexibility: Travel to outreach clinics, care homes and patients' homes to provide full range of services.
* Essential other: Full driving licence and use of a car.
