Engineering Manager – Leeds
Salary: £65k – £75k, neg. depending on experience, plus bonus and exceptional benefits.
Our client is part of a group that has been established for almost 200 years and employs more than 5,500 staff globally, specialising in a range of bespoke heavier engineering and materials handling activities for a diverse range of applications.
Due to the approaching retirement of a long‑established and valued member of the team, we are seeking an experienced and self‑motivated Engineering Manager to be based in our prestigious Leeds office and covering other depots and offices as required.
Responsibilities
* Provide a high‑quality engineering service to the business/division, meeting the needs of the business unit's ongoing and future business.
* Implement and sustain best engineering practices across all areas.
* Oversee the product improvement and new product development strategy.
* Manage business unit‑owned specialist applications engineers, engineers from the pooled generic engineering resource, and contract staff to ensure effective and efficient use of resources, meeting project schedules on time and within budget.
* Collaborate with marketing to manage the continuous product improvement process with respect to cost, delivery time, product performance, etc., and new product development.
* Ensure appropriate engineering involvement in business‑winning project teams for proposal preparation and sales.
* Prepare the business unit engineering strategy and contribute to the formulation of the overall group engineering strategy.
* Prepare and implement plans for engineering skills development, contract staff utilisation, allocation of staff to projects, and personnel development and recruitment.
* Champion communication between the engineering department and other functional departments, attending inter‑company and customer sites as required (a valid UK driving licence is essential).
Qualifications
* Degree level or above in a relevant Mechanical or Electrical Engineering discipline, ideally with Chartered status or working towards it.
* Membership of relevant professional bodies.
* Proven engineering management experience, preferably gained within a mechanical handling environment.
* Significant mechanical engineering design experience.
* Effective communication and influencing skills at all levels.
