About Caterpillar Peterlee Caterpillar Peterlee is the worldwide source of Cat® Articulated Trucks, currently producing an 8-model range used in many industries including mining, construction and aggregates. The facility's manufacturing activities use the latest computer analysis techniques, robotic technology and a state-of-the-art paint plant. Machines from the site are shipped to customers around the world. The Opportunity As a Quality Engineer, you will report directly to the Quality Manager and will be primarily responsible for supporting the Quality Management System within the assigned operational areas, by providing expertise and advice on production or product problems fed back from both internal and external customers. You will be required to conduct investigations, analyse information and facilitate teams dealing with issues/projects associated with resolution of quality problems. What You Will Do: - Be responsible for Quality Assurance in the Final Finish and Pre Delivery Inspection (PDI) quality gates, including creating/reviewing/maintaining quality gate & product inspection procedures and specifications, performing audits, improvements of products reliability and customer satisfaction through support of the CPS (Caterpillar Production System), NPI (New Product Introduction) and CPI (Continuous Product Improvement) programs. - Develop plans and tools that are used to implement or support Caterpillar Quality Management Systems (CQMS) requirements. - Work with all employees to improve quality practices in their processes through quality manner such as daily coaching, tracking CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement), providing quality support if any poor results or negative trends occur, developing IQC training programs, providing training courses of quality specifications to employees, conducting internal quality audits, facilitating quality reviews, etc. - Carry out Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Root Cause Corrective Action implementation by clarifying and verifying all ideas with key stakeholders, explain the validation reasons, and encourage all employees to make contributions to achieve zero defect in operations. - Proactively develop quality related control methodologies in line with Built in Quality (BiQ) and Right Part Right Time (RPRT) requirements. - Continue the evolution of the established processes and systems by collaboration with Product Support, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering and Design teams. - Actively support the collaborative updating of the Pre Delivery Audit checklist/CAT Inspect checklist/5S audits /Lean Manufacturing & SAP introduction. - Support with PDI alignment activities at Dealers and potentially external Customers. - Support daily PDI & PDA performance reviews. - Support the Top 15 Internal Defect Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) projects using the Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) Built in Quality (BiQ) Quality Alert (QA) system. What You Will Have: Skills gained within a quality or manufacturing environment. Quality Management: Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization. Level Extensive Experience: - Requires quality tools knowledge and to be able to teach manufacturing/office employees how to properly apply quality tools or techniques. - Requires a thorough knowledge of quality concepts including process control, analysis, Caterpillar internal certification principals, and ISO9000 etc. - excellent understanding of quality management practices or equivalent experience. Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Knowledge of the concepts, principles and techniques of root cause analysis (RCA); ability to use a structured approach to identify the causes of undesirable consequences in a manufacturing environment and the changes needed to prevent recurrences. Level Extensive Experience: Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision. Level Extensive Experience: Collaborating: Knowledge of collaborative techniques; ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner. Level Working Knowledge: - Requires strong communication, cooperation and influence skills to work with all levels of employees and customers, especially with leadership management employees.
