Overview
We are looking for a candidate to join our team of anaesthetists working across our various sites to provide high level anaesthetic provision. Torbay hospital has a reputation for having a friendly working environment, has excellent trainee feedback and is a national innovator in many areas including day surgery and peri-operative medicine. We are one of the first departments in the country to have undergone and completed ACSA reaccreditation successfully, and the hospital is part of the HIP2 wave of major rebuild and refurbishment, which includes a new theatres build and will place a transformative digital environment at the heart of patient care.
Successful applicants will take part in the general on-call rota at Torbay and as such obstetric and paediatric anaesthetic skills are essential. Our on-call commitment has evolved to provide the highest quality consultant-delivered service whilst supporting a healthy work-life balance. General anaesthetists contribute to a 1 in 20 non-resident on call rota.
You will provide high quality consultant delivered care to all patients and provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior medical staff.
Key responsibilities
* Provide high quality consultant delivered care to patients
* Provide clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care
* Engage with patients, GPs, colleagues, junior medical staff, management, other medical and service departments within the Trust, and liaison with other Trusts/Providers where necessary
Professional planning and governance
* Plan treatment care effectively and prioritise workload safely
* Use best evidence based analytical judgement in providing care
* Provide teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and supervise doctors in training
* Be proactive in the department's clinical governance agenda and support continuous learning and improvement in line with Trust policies
Patient and service responsibilities
* Ensure rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making while delivering safe quality and performance standards
* Adhere to Trust policies and participate in relevant audits and quality assurance
Resource and leadership responsibilities
* Collaborate with the Associate Medical Director, Associate Director of Operations and Operational Manager on budgetary issues
* Recruitment, appointment, teaching and educational supervision of junior medical staff, including study leave, annual leave and rotas
* Complete relevant medical records per policies; use IT systems (e.g., Picis, Galaxy, CLW, VitalPAC)
Research, development and wider role
* Take part in research and development within the department
* Contribute to clinical governance and leadership within the Trust
