Tunnels and underground structures form an increasingly critical part of modern-day infrastructure, providing economic, societal and environmental benefits through efficient and rapid movement of people below ground. This may be in mass transit systems, high-speed rail lines or highway tunnels.
We are expanding our team to meet growing demands from our extensive client base, particularly in the infrastructure and energy sectors. Current areas of demand include nuclear new build, carbon capture storage, renewable energy (hydropower), and other low carbon engineering.
Your role
* Candidates should have the flair and ability to help develop and expand our tunnelling capability, building on our existing portfolio and a team that can tackle work across a broad spectrum of sectors.
* We are looking for enthusiastic chartered or senior engineers with a proven technical and project management track record.
* Assist the Tunneling team with strategic bids.
* Develop your own network of business contacts to contribute to the growth of the Tunneling disciplines.
* Integrate the team into our technical discipline and market leads.
* Mentor early career team members.
About You
* A good academic background with a degree (ideally MSc or equivalent) and Chartered status in civil or structural engineering (a requirement).
* Excellent interpersonal and technical skills and the ability to develop and lead tunnelling design teams.
* Project management experience and understanding of the needs and approaches of the engineering consultancy and design markets, including relationships with clients, work planning and commercial management.
* Proven tunnelling design experience in a fast‑moving engineering consultancy environment and advanced constitutive soil model experience with numerical modelling software (FLAC or PLAXIS). Use of dynamic soil‑structure interaction problems would be a benefit.
* Proven experience using advanced structural analysis software (Robot or STAAD). BIM‑integrated workflows to exchange data with Revit would be a benefit.
* Application of CDM Regulations.
* Excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise with clients.
* Excellent report writing skills with the ability to self‑check and produce accurate work. A willingness to travel on short assignments both within the UK and overseas.
