 
        
        Healthcare Science Support Worker (HSSW)
The role of the Healthcare Science Support Worker (HSSW) is primarily to support the department's Biomedical Scientists (BMS) and provide administrative assistance in the processing of patient specimens. This includes preparing specimens, processing specimens, loading analyzers, running and maintaining analyzers, and dealing with phone calls. This position does not offer visa sponsorship.
Responsibilities
 * Identify and load patient samples and begin analytical test procedures according to SOPs.
 * Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance on all analytical and non-analytical tasks within the laboratory, including temperature chart changes, checking massive blood loss alarms, and maintaining laboratory equipment.
 * Maintain and check daily stocks of reagents, kits, and consumables required for analytical equipment, and load reagents onto analyzers.
 * Monitor stock levels within the department weekly and advise BMS staff if supplies fall below minimum levels.
 * Liaise with clinical staff over the phone and inform BMS staff of any issues, inconsistencies, or inaccuracies within the department.
 * Book samples for testing within the department or refer to other departments.
 * Prepare and load patient samples onto automated and manual laboratory analyzers, unload, sort, and store samples appropriately.
 * Maintain test turnaround times by processing samples in a timely manner.
 * Perform a second demographic check on all samples (if required) prior to loading onto automated analyzers.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must have a valid right to work in the UK and possess knowledge of laboratory sample processing, analytical equipment maintenance, and a strong attention to detail. Previous experience in a laboratory support role is beneficial.
