Family Support Specialist

Location: Aberdeen, WA. The position will be based out of the Family Behavioral Health Aberdeen site.


Compensation

Starting range: $31.50 - $35.04 per hour.

Language stipend: $100-$200 per pay period for Spanish and English, or other languages as needed.

Job Summary

The Family Support Specialist is responsible for providing and implementing prescribed mental health treatment strategies, crisis response and de‑escalation, and crisis plan implementation. The role provides one‑on‑one mental health treatment strategies and services to high‑risk children, youth and their families in the family home, therapeutic foster home, or community locations.


Responsibilities

* Act as a “First Responder,” providing direct crisis response, de‑escalation, emergency supervision and redirection of children and youth in their home, school, and community.
* Participate in clinical intake observation and assessment of child/youth and provide multi‑dimensional assessment in all life areas.
* Collaborate with assigned clinician to support consumer access to physical health and substance abuse treatment services in the community.
* Participate in clinical decision‑making for high‑risk youth and contribute to the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans.
* Implement prescribed behavioral strategies and treatment services, modeling and teaching social behavior, self‑protection skills and awareness.
* Complete family and behavioral health assessments, including CANS and SNCD, and assist with CALOCUS as required.
* Assess family needs for community resources and coordinate with Medicaid‑funded providers.
* Analyze and assess home environment, including safety sweeps.
* Report information to clinicians and supervisors as necessary.
* Communicate with all reporting entities as required by law within required timeframes.
* Assist in determining medical eligibility for services, demonstrating understanding of Medicaid requirements.
* Deliver direct therapeutic services using evidence‑based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
* Accurately complete documentation per required timeframes into FBH Electronic Health Record and Psych Consult.
* Coordinate medical and behavioral health services with families, primary care physicians, and specialists.
* Utilize Motivational Interviewing techniques and Praxis‑wise treatment manual to plan sessions.


Qualifications

* Age 21 or older per DSHS requirements.
* Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, human development or related field, or Associate degree with three years of experience serving children/families in mental health, social services, or education.
* Eligible to become an Agency Affiliated Counselor with WA State (HIV/AIDS required).
* Proof of negative TB test within past 12 months.
* Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication.
* Availability to work flexible hours (evenings, nights, weekends).
* Ability to assess safety and well‑being of family homes and crisis situations.
* Reliable transportation with valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
* Acceptable driving record per CCS’ driving policy.
* Successful background checks prior to offer.
* Professionalism, initiative, and ability to work independently and on a team.

* Culturally competent service delivery in multicultural settings.


Preferred Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in social services, mental health or related field and at least one year of experience serving children and/or families.
