The Finance Officer - also known as a Finance Administrator, Accounts Officer, Payroll Officer, or Bookkeeper - will be central to ensuring the smooth running of the school's financial operations, providing essential day-to-day financial administration and supporting effective management reporting. The Role Reporting to the Head of Finance and Administration, the Finance Officer will manage a broad range of financial activities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting. Your key responsibilities will include: Processing monthly salaries, ensuring accurate and timely payments, and maintaining payroll records Administering the pension scheme and submitting HMRC returns Managing credit control and student invoicing, liaising with Student Finance NI Updating and maintaining the sales ledger and reconciling bank accounts Preparing monthly payment proposals and assisting with management accounts Supporting the preparation of annual statutory accounts and business plans Completing statutory returns and financial surveys as required Providing monthly analysis and financial insight to budget holders You'll also support ad hoc projects and general financial administration, contributing to the effective running of the organisation. About You This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, takes ownership, and thrives in a small, collaborative team environment. You'll have: A part-qualified accounting qualification (AAT/IATI/ACCA or similar) or 2-3 years' relevant experience At least 2 years' experience in end-to-end payroll processing Proficiency in Sage or similar accounting/payroll systems Strong understanding of PAYE, NI, SSP, SMP, and other statutory payments Excellent organisational and communication skills, with attention to detail Strong IT skills, particularly in Excel and Outlook The ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism Experience within a charity or small-organisation setting would be advantageous, but not essential.
