Client:
Our client is a leading, dynamic, reputable Main Contractor that work on a diverse range of projects across the Construction and Civil Engineering sectors.
The business work on large new build projects across various sectors including Housing, Education, Healthcare, Commercial Office, Pharmaceutical & Civil Engineering projects.
They have a lot of work on currently with many more projects in the pipeline and they are looking to strengthen their commercial team by bringing in an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor strong in all commercial areas, able to manage projects from inception through to completion.
This is a great opportunity to be a key player within a strong commercial team and work on some outstanding projects.
Role Responsibilities:
22. Ensure that all reporting is accurate and completed to agreed timescales
23. Ensure the project and programme contract, cost, quality and time targets are met
24. Ensure prompt and regular submission of main contract payment applications and ensure that subcontractor payments are dealt with fairly and in accordance with subcontract terms
25. Build a close relationship with Project Manager to ensure the goals for the project are met
26. Maintain and coordinate all commercial reports required for the successful commercial management of the contract
27. Ensure compliance with the business delays and contract process maps
28. Preparation of the forecasting and reporting of costs against value to ensure that it is in line with the contract profitability forecast
29. Ensure all subcontract issues are resolved, deferring to the Commercial Manager where appropriate
30. Ensure the accuracy of the commercial data generated within relevant software
31. Ensure compliance with all contractual requirements, providing support and training on both the contract and the schedule of rates to maximise value recovery
32. Management of subcontract accounts including interrogation, procurement, payments, variations and final accounts
33. Preparation of all subcontracts to meet the company standards
34. Ensure all subcontractor commercial issues are resolved and payments are timely and correct
35. Identifying, raising and pricing of variation in line with the change control process including identification, measurement claims and rogue rates
36. Obtain maximum recovery through accurate measurement of the works completed
37. Liaise with the Commercial Manager to ensure accuracy of costs, and best practise in material buying
38. Liaise and assist with the performance analyst in the preparation of run rate data, including the preparation of weekly gang profit / loss, plant spend, KPI and prefect delivery requirements
39. As part of the overall management team take responsibility regarding health, safety, quality and the environment providing commercial support
40. Coach and mentor Quantity Surveyors and Junior Quantity Surveyors within the Commercial department, sharing knowledge and best practice
41. Act as mentor to any apprentices that may be attached to the Commercial department, sharing knowledge and best practice, acting as a point of contact for any queries, and providing feedback on the apprentice as required
42. In conjunction with the Contracts Manager / Site Manager provide sub-contractors with sufficient health, safety and environmental information relating to the specific contract at Pre-order meetings and request statutory documentation
43. Take an active role in ensuring health, safety and the environment are effectively managed on site including monitoring activities as detailed in the Project Strategy Plan
44. In conjunction with the Project Director/Contracts Manager ensure adequate cost / provisions are made available to enable health, safety and environmental issues to be effectively managed on site
The Ideal Person:
45. Degree qualified or other relevant qualifications
46. Extensive experience working for a Main Contractor
47. Experience in residential, commercial and civil engineering works (piling, drainage, RC works, groundworks)
48. Experience/knowledge of optimal build sequences / construction methods / resource levels for civils works, reinforced concrete works, high rise construction and residential housing
49. Proven track record working on projects ranging up to circa £50m
50. Strong commercial skills and awareness
51. Sound contractual knowledge in various forms of contract
52. Excellent numerical, IT and problem-solving skills
53. Excellent communication & negotiation skills
54. Proven experience of managing Quantity Surveyors and Assistants
55. People management experience, such as managing performance and development procedures with the ability to motivate colleagues to achieve high standards of compliance
56. Good operational planning and time management skills; able to manage projects simultaneously without compromising on standards and quality
57. Ability to ensure standards and specifications are met
58. Ability to work with colleagues to deliver project and operational performance
59. Able to commute to Newry on a daily basis
