Principal Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant
Location: Manchester | Salary: GBP55,000 – GBP60,000.
This is an excellent opportunity to join an expanding, sustainably‑minded multidisciplinary consultancy. We are looking for a passionate, skilled Principal Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant committed to enhancing Business Development by winning and developing new projects in the Flood Risk and Drainage sectors. The role will be based in Manchester.

Responsibilities
* Winning new projects, contributing to BD activities.
* Managing a team of design professionals.
* Conducting Flood Risk Assessments (FRA) and producing Drainage Strategies, including Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
* Completing Hydrological and Flood Risk chapters of Environmental Impact Assessments, Nutrient Neutrality, and ESG factors.
* Undertaking site visits, writing comprehensive reports, analysing/interpreting gathered data.
* Using appropriate software packages (including MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow, etc.) to inform and produce designs and other technical documents.
* Working with AutoCAD to design conceptual drainage systems.
* Producing flood risk maps within QGIS (or similar software).
* Establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Required skills and experience
* A UK Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a cognate discipline.
* Demonstrable experience of winning projects and contributing to Business Development (BD).
* Experience working in a flood risk and drainage role within a UK‑based consultancy setting.
* Extensive experience authoring Flood Risk Assessments and producing Drainage Strategies.
* Considerable experience managing people and projects.
* Proficiencies in MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow, TUFLOW and other relevant software systems.
* Excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD and GIS software systems.
* Keen understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite.
* Outstanding communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
* Experience managing relations with clients and other stakeholders.
* Dedication to continuing professional development (CPD).
* Possess a full, valid UK Driving Licence.
Desirable skills and experience
* Chartered Status, or actively working to attain this.
* An understanding of relevant planning policy, procedures and regulatory processes within the industry.
* Prior experience producing technical reports for flood modelling studies.
* Good knowledge of hydraulic modelling for rivers, surface water and/or sewer drainage.
