Head of Property (Receivership-Focused Role)
Location: Hertfordshire
Contract: Full-time, permanent, hybrid working
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
About the Role
An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced property lawyer to lead a growing Property department within a respected, forward-thinking practice. This role is ideal for a senior solicitor seeking a leadership position with a strong commercial focus, particularly in acting for receivers in property transactions.
The successful candidate will oversee both residential and commercial property matters, but a significant proportion of the caseload will involve acting for receivers (including mortgagees in possession) on property sales, disposals, and related matters.
This is a rare opportunity to lead a department at the forefront of an increasingly important area of property law, advising on and managing sales for receivers where properties are sold to recover debts or manage distressed assets.
What You’ll Do
* Lead and manage a busy Property team, supporting and developing junior lawyers.
* Handle a caseload focused primarily on receivership and mortgagee-in-possession transactions, often involving sales by auction, portfolio disposals, and high-value assets.
* Advise receivers, lenders, and insolvency professionals on the legal, practical, and commercial aspects of selling properties under receivership.
* Oversee both residential and commercial conveyancing, ensuring smooth execution from instruction to completion.
* Drive departmental growth, client engagement, and process innovation.
* Maintain regulatory and professional standards, ensuring the firm’s continued reputation for quality and integrity.
About You
* At least 7+ years’ PQE in property law (residential and commercial).
* Strong experience with receivership sales, mortgagee-in-possession matters, or distressed asset transactions.
* Proven leadership or supervisory experience.
* Excellent communication skills and commercial awareness.
* A proactive approach to client management and business development.
Why This Role Stands Out
* Receivership Expertise – You’ll become a key point of contact for receiver clients, advising on all aspects of property disposal, risk management, and compliance in line with best practice.
* Strategic Leadership – Shape and grow a property department with strong market potential.
* Progressive Culture – Work within a collaborative, ambitious, and supportive team.
* Flexibility – Hybrid working based in Hertfordshire, offering a balance between professional challenge and quality of life.
