Main duties of the job
Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the Practice
Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments
Explain Practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover including patients from abroad and ensure procedures are completed
Receive and make telephone calls as required Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt delivery
Enter requests for home visits, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and prepare encounter reports for home visits.
Issue print and prepare for signature repeat prescription requests accurately and timely ready for collection within 48 hours
Advise patients of relevant charges for nonGeneral Medical services accept payment and issue receipts
Enter patient information onto the computer as require
Type hospital referrals.
Assist with the maintenance of accurate up-to-date and relevant patient notes and medical records
Open and secure premises at the start and end of the working day de-activate alarm and make necessary preparations to receive patients
Support the development and apply Practice policies, standards and guidelines
Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Partners or the Practice Manager
About us
Buckland Medical Centre is a practicecovering 3 sites with 4 partners, 1 salaried GP 2 full time Practice Nurses, 3HCAs and a number of supporting administration and reception provide care to 11,000 patients.
The applicants would be expected topossess good people skills and understand the importance of good customer care.You will have a warm and confident personality, give excellent customer serviceas a priority and be by nature consistently positive, friendly and calm. Youwill have recent proven reception experience in a GP environment. We operateacross covering for holidays, or other absence and flexibility are essentialelement of the role. Applicants should be genuinely looking for a part-time,full time, permanent position. Good literacy, accuracy and attention to detailare vital. It would help if you also were IT literate as the receptionistwork's bulk involves inputting data into the computer. Previous GP experienceis desired but not essential; knowledge of Emis medical software would be anadvantage but is not essential as full training can be given. Full clean driving license is desirable asyou will need to cover 3 sites including one situated in a village.

Using your own judgement and communications skills ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner

Administration

Advise patients of relevant charges for private (non General Medical) services, accept payment and issue receipts
Enter patient information onto the computer as required
Type hospital referrals. (All referrals are to be via e.Referral unless otherwise stated by the GP).

The post-holder will:
