3 months contract with a Local Authority Job Summary: • Enfield Council is seeking an experienced Homeless Housing Coordinator to join the Initial Assessment Team, based at Edmonton Green Library. • The post holder will play a key role in preventing and relieving homelessness by carrying out detailed homelessness assessments, providing expert housing advice, and working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners. • This role supports the Council’s early help strategy to improve housing resilience and sustainment for residents at risk of homelessness. Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample): • Carry out comprehensive homelessness assessments in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. • Provide accurate and timely housing advice to residents who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. • Develop and implement personalised housing plans (PHPs) to prevent and relieve homelessness. • Liaise with landlords, housing providers, legal services, and other agencies to secure sustainable housing solutions. • Manage complex homelessness cases, including those involving safeguarding, domestic abuse, and mental health. • Assess eligibility, priority need, and intentionality in accordance with housing legislation and case law. • Prepare and issue statutory notifications, decisions, and s184 letters within agreed timescales. • Represent the Council at court hearings, reviews, and multi-agency meetings where required. • Maintain accurate case records and ensure all actions comply with legislation, policies, and data protection. • Contribute to service improvements, performance targets, and best practice initiatives within the team. Skills/Experience: • Proven experience in homelessness prevention, housing advice, or a related statutory function within a local authority or housing association. • In-depth knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Housing Act 1996 (Part VII), and related case law. • Understanding of welfare benefits, tenure types, possession proceedings, and eviction processes. • Ability to make sound and lawful homelessness decisions and write clear, reasoned determinations. • Excellent communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills when dealing with vulnerable clients and partner agencies. • Knowledge of safeguarding adults and children procedures and responsibilities. • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a demanding caseload. • Experience using housing management or casework systems (e.g. Locata, Jigsaw, Northgate, Civica). • Commitment to delivering high-quality customer-focused services in line with Council values.
