Milk Education is working in partnership with a specialist school in the Kensington & Chelsea borough to recruit an Aspiring Clinical Psychologist to join their team as a Learning Support Assistant. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about neurodiversity, child development, and mental health — particularly those looking to gain hands-on experience before progressing into careers such as Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, SEN teaching, or therapy services.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide personalised, one-to-one and small group support to pupils with Autism, SEMH needs, learning difficulties, and PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) profiles.
2. Support pupils across the autism spectrum — including non-verbal communicators, sensory learners, students with high anxiety profiles, and academically able pupils who may “mask” their needs.
3. Use trauma-informed, Low Arousal, and relational approaches to help pupils feel safe, regulated, and understood.
4. Understand and apply strategies specific to PDA profiles, such as:
5. reducing perceived demands
6. offering choices to support autonomy
7. using indirect and collaborative language
8. Promote emotional regulation, independence, communication and social interaction, using visual supports, sensory tools, and co-regulation strategies.
9. Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, clinical teams, and external specialists.
10. Assist with the implementation of IEPs, behaviour support plans, and SEN strategies.
11. Monitor pupil progress, capturing observations and feeding insights back to teaching staff and parents.
12. Contribute to a safe, inclusive, nurturing learning environment where every child is able to thrive.
Ideal Candidate
13. Degree in Psychology or a related field preferred (but not essential).
14. Experience supporting children or young people with SEND (Autism, PDA, SEMH) through paid or voluntary roles is desirable.
15. Genuine passion for supporting neurodivergent pupils and an interest in child development, mental health, and neuroscience.
16. Empathetic, calm under pressure, and confident building trusting relationships.
17. Strong communication skills and reflective practice.
18. Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.
