Employment Type: Part Time
Location: Cross College
Reporting To: Jen Ross
Compensation: £24,242 - £28,586 / year
Description
Support enrichment activities for all levels of students across the College and undertake daily youth work in the student zones engaging with young people to help them learn new skills and develop a sense of identity and independence, acting as a key contact for both staff and students, enhancing the student experience.
Maintain a highly visible presence across both the curriculum areas and the campus, greeting students as they arrive at College, encouraging, supporting and leading by example to inspire a sense of responsibility and community in our learners and enhance their overall College experience in support of the College's core values. This will include liaising across a variety of College teams to provide appropriate internal interventions to ensure the best possible learner outcomes for individual students and vulnerable cohorts.
Main Responsibilities and Duties
The following is an indication of the type and level of the main priorities expected of this role as directed by your line manager and is not intended to be a comprehensive list of duties or tasks:
* Act as an integral part of the Student Support Services team, setting clear expectations around behaviour and conduct through induction, enrichment and themed weeks linked to Equality and Diversity, local, regional and national priorities and working with students to empower them to manage and monitor their own behaviour in and around College.
* Encourage and appropriately challenge students in demonstrating the College’s values and developing and maintaining good practice regarding punctuality, behaviour and independent study, dealing with low level disruptive behaviour appropriately and in line with College policies and procedures and act as a role model for students.
* Provide advice and support to students directly in relation to behavioural and conduct queries and issues, liaising with curriculum staff regarding issues relating to student behaviour and conduct, working closely with College Security and the Student Liaison Officers in relation to escalated behaviour and Disciplinary issues relating to Gross Misconduct.
* Manage a small caseload of students identified as ‘at-risk’ due to low level concerns, monitoring performance and attendance in order to maximise achievement and refer to wider student support services for targeted and timely intervention.
* Undertake daily youth work in social zones which focuses on creating safe, inclusive, and engaging environments where students can relax, connect with peers, and access informal support. Build trusting relationships with students by delivering enrichment activities, promoting positive behaviours, and offering a listening ear. By being a consistent, approachable presence, you help students navigate College life, overcome challenges, and develop the confidence and skills needed for their future.
* Plan and deliver enrichment sessions that align with the College’s enrichment strategy, supporting students’ personal development, behaviour, and attitudes. This includes independently developing events from initial concept through to detailed planning, risk assessments, and successful delivery, while also providing proactive support to the Student Enrichment Coordinator.
* Liaise with PPT’s and Curriculum staff to identify and implement strategies to raise student performance and achievement.
* Liaise with the Intervention Team and the Student Welfare Team, to signpost students to the range of support services available to them including financial, academic, social and emotional issues which may be having a detrimental effect on their studies.
* Regularly attend curriculum team meetings to discuss attendance, behaviour, student conduct and ‘at-risk’ students.
In addition all post holders will be required trained to act as Fire Marshals and First Aiders.
