Job Description
Title: Maintenance Engineer
Location: Corby, Northamptonshire
Eurokey Recycling Ltd has been part of The Reconomy Group since March 2021. With over 30 years' experience, we are market leaders in our field and are currently experiencing a period of organic growth. We opened a multi-million-pound bespoke recycling facility in Kettering, Northamptonshire in 2021 and are now in the process of building the second plant in Corby. We are the only company in the UK offering a genuine solution for processing single-polymer plastic packaging, significantly reducing the need for export.
The Maintenance Engineer role is critical to the reliability and performance of our automated recycling and processing plant, ensuring production runs safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime by responding promptly to technical issues and carrying out planned preventative maintenance.
Core Duties (not exhaustive):
* Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and reliability of all automated processing, extrusion, conveying, cooling, and downstream handling equipment.
* Maintain and adhere to planned preventative maintenance schedules in line with manufacturer guidelines and the site Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
* Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and automation-related breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
* Support, manage, and develop the shift maintenance assistant.
* Carry out daily inspections of all critical plant and equipment prior to and during each shift.
* Monitor and support automated systems, including PLC-controlled machinery, sensors, drives, and safety systems (training provided where required).
* Order, manage, and maintain accurate stock records of spare parts, consumables, and critical components.
* Maintain an accurate inventory of tools, including sign-in/sign-out control of high-value items via the CMMS.
* Escalate recurring faults, safety concerns, or production-critical issues to the Head of Maintenance or Site Operations Manager.
* Ensure full integration and compliance with electronic maintenance and Health & Safety management systems.
* Report misuse, unsafe operation, or damage to machinery to the Head of Maintenance and Health & Safety Manager.
* Ensure work areas remain clean, organised, and free from hazards, reducing the risk of slips, trips, and falls.
* Ensure all Health & Safety concerns, incidents, or near misses are reported in line with site procedures.
* Ensure site visitors and contractors comply with PPE and site sign-in requirements.
* Complete thorough shift handovers using site-specific templates to ensure continuity of maintenance coverage.
* Take full maintenance responsibility for the shift in the absence of the Head of Maintenance.
Skills & Experience Required:
* Proven experience in an industrial, automated manufacturing or processing environment.
* Knowledge of extrusion, plastics processing, or recycling plant would be a strong advantage.
* Experience with conveyors, motors, gearboxes, pumps, and automated material handling systems.
* Basic understanding of PLC-controlled systems, sensors, and fault-finding (advanced skills advantageous but not essential).
* Strong Health & Safety awareness with the ability to work safely in a high-risk, automated environment.
* High sense of urgency when troubleshooting plant and production issues.
* Ability to use initiative and remain calm under pressure.
* Proactive approach to identifying, escalating, and resolving issues.
* Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
