Overview
ADAS, part of RSK Group, is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join our Midlands team based in Wolverhampton on a full-time, permanent basis. The role focuses on managing projects, liaising with clients, carrying out protected species surveys, and applying a strong technical background in mitigation strategies. The ideal candidate will have skills in the Planning process, Biodiversity Net Gain, UK Habitat Classification, and Habitat Condition Assessments, and protected species licensing.
Responsibilities
* Work as part of a team with existing ecologists to deliver quality projects to clients on time.
* Manage projects from inception to finalisation.
* Engage with clients, providing solid technical advice.
* Write technical reports such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impact Assessments, Mitigation Strategies, Biodiversity Management Plans, Habitat Regulations Assessments Screening, and protected species reports.
* Quality review and approval of reports.
* Lead protected species surveys and train junior staff.
* Support the team with business development and project management. You may be asked to perform additional tasks reasonably expected within your level of capability without additional remuneration.
Must Have
* Graduate level education in a relevant subject.
* Associate Level CIEEM membership or above.
* In-depth knowledge of ecology, legislation, and survey techniques.
* Experience of managing projects and liaising effectively with clients.
* Excellent written communication skills and ability to produce accurate technical reports.
* Proactive attitude to time management, problem solving, and delivering work to required standards.
* Full driving license, access to a vehicle, and ability to commute to the office.
* Knowledge and experience in Biodiversity Net Gain and Habitat Condition Assessments.
Desirable
* One protected species license (e.g., Great Crested Newt, Hazel Dormouse, bats, etc.).
* Experience of bat data analysis.
* CSCS card
* Personal Track Safety (PTS) qualification
* Knowledge/experience of District Licensing for Great Crested Newts or being named ecologist on mitigation licenses.
