Join our Regional Civils team as a Section Engineer on our South Wokingham Distributor Road Project where you’ll deliver complex work that really matters to our business, and the world around you.
What you'll be doing
As a Section Engineer, you will:
* Live the Balfour Beatty Values;
* Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm;
* Support the delivery of CSUK’s Sustainability activities.
Health Safety & Environmental
* Produce Method Statements and Risk Assessments and undertake periodic reviews;
* Prepare and raise Temporary Works Briefs, following up to ensure timely implementation;
* Carry out Visitors Induction;
* Complete Accident Book and associated reports as required. Be able to undertake incident investigations to the required standard;
* Undertake safety audits and mentor less experienced staff.
Engineering Control
* Carry out complex setting out;
* Provide ‘primary’ setting out control and recognize the optimum location for installation;
* Coach junior engineers in setting out techniques.
Quality
* Produce Activity Control Plans / Inspection and Test Plans and obtain approval;
* Use the Specification for reference and coach junior team members;
* Maintain a comprehensive filing system of quality records aligned to the Project Quality Handover requirements;
* Ensure Site Engineers complete quality checksheets on time;
* Identify, raise, and action Non Conformance Reports, and track their close-out;
* Identify and raise Technical Queries (RFIs) with possible solutions, and track their resolution.
Productivity
* Produce weekly programmes and measure progress against KPIs;
* Communicate weekly programmes and targets to the workforce;
* Monitor as-built programme and report reasons for differences;
* Liaise with subcontractors to ensure work aligns with the weekly programme.
Commercial
* Maintain accurate diaries, including communication with external organizations (subcontractors);
* Collate weekly measurement information and monitor wastage against budget allowances/KPIs;
* Carry out labour and plant reconciliation and supervise less experienced team members;
* Identify additional work items and raise notifications;
* Work according to specific terms, conditions, and outputs of relevant subcontractors and suppliers.
Who we're looking for
Personal Qualities and Experience:
Core competencies include:
* Clear communication of safe work systems and suggestions for improvements;
* Ownership of tasks and clear communication of outcomes;
* Strong work ethic and flexibility for unsociable hours;
* Ability to work independently and proactively;
* Current driving license and CSCS Card, SSSTS or SMSTS qualification;
* Strong team player with good communication skills.
Health Safety & Environmental qualities include:
* Understanding of Permit Systems and active permit raising;
* Proactive hazard identification and control implementation;
* Good environmental awareness.
Engineering Control skills include:
* Ability to carry out complex setting out;
* Issue resolution with provided controls and information;
* Ability to identify issues on drawings and suggest solutions.
Quality knowledge includes:
* Experience in producing ACP;
* Driving the production of quality handover documentation;
* Understanding construction tolerances;
* Familiarity with Specification and Contract documents.
Productivity understanding includes:
* Using programme information effectively;
* Knowledge of construction processes in areas like Earthworks, Drainage, Pavement, etc.
Commercial understanding includes:
* Knowledge of key contract documentation and recording additional work;
* Understanding of subcontractor and supplier terms and conditions;
* Supervision of records for commercial recovery.
