Role Summary
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Cadet Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for January 2026. This is an exciting developmental role designed for individuals aspiring to progress into teaching, youth leadership, or educational support. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff to deliver high-quality learning experiences, support pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4, and contribute to the wider pastoral and enrichment life of the school.
Key Responsibilities
* Support classroom teachers in planning and delivering engaging lessons.
* Lead small-group interventions and, where appropriate, supervise whole classes during short-term teacher absence.
* Provide targeted support to pupils with additional learning needs, ensuring inclusion and access to the curriculum.
* Assist with the preparation of learning materials, resources, and classroom environments.
* Contribute to the school’s pastoral systems, including form time support and behaviour/attendance initiatives.
* Participate in school enrichment activities, clubs, and events as part of the cadet development pathway.
* Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and feedback to teachers as required.
* Uphold the school’s policies on safeguarding, behaviour, and equality.
Person Specification
Essential:
* Strong interest in pursuing a career in education, cadet/millitary, youth work, or teaching.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to build positive relationships with young people.
* Strong organisational abilities and willingness to take initiative.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils.
* GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
Desirable:
* Experience working with young people in a school, youth group, or community setting.
* HLTA status or willingness to undertake training.
* Prior Cadet, Scouts, Millitary experience.
* Experience leading small groups or learning activities.
* Knowledge of SEND strategies and behaviour-support approaches.
Training and Development
This cadet role includes:
* Professional development sessions delivered by teaching staff and senior leaders.
* Opportunities to observe lessons, take on increasing responsibility, and build a portfolio for future educational roles.
* Supportive mentoring throughout the placement.
