Cover Teacher – Primary and Secondary Schools, Surrey areas

Main Purpose of the Role

To provide high-quality classroom supervision and instruction across a range of subjects during teacher absences, ensuring students remain engaged and learning objectives are achieved.

Key Responsibilities

1. Deliver lessons and activities prepared by the absent teacher.
2. Manage classroom behaviour effectively in line with school policies.
3. Ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
4. Support students with their learning and answer questions where appropriate.
5. Take attendance and maintain accurate classroom records.
6. Adapt teaching approaches to meet the needs of different learners.
7. Liaise with teaching staff and report back on lesson progress and student behaviour.
8. Uphold safeguarding, health and safety, and school procedures at all times.
9. Provide support during break duties or other school activities if required.

10. Strong classroom management skills.
11. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
12. Flexible, adaptable, and confident working across different subjects and age groups.
13. Organised and reliable with good time-management skills.
14. Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
15. Calm and professional under pressure.

Qualifications and Requirements

16. Degree or relevant educational qualification preferred.
17. Experience working with children or young people in an educational setting.
18. Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
19. Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
20. Teaching qualification or classroom experience desirable but not always essential.
21. QTS an advantage

Working Environment

Cover Teachers – settings on a short-term, long-term, or daily supply basis. The role may involve covering a variety of subjects and year groups.
