SENCO Job Description: This role is perfect for someone with a desire to support children with Special Educational Needs and work with their colleagues to ensure all children are accessing as much as possible within a mainstream setting. This role is based in a good school in the Dudley area and will be responsible for developing the school's overall approach to special educational needs, heading up the SEN department, and helping teachers to support students who have special educational needs, working closely with teaching staff at all levels, including the school's headteacher and senior leadership team. This is a full time permanent position. Person Specification: • A teaching qualification together with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) • National Award in Special Educational Needs Coordination (or a commitment to gaining full accreditation within three years of appointment) Proven experience in effective liaison with a range of outside agencies • Knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum requirements across Key Stage 3 and 4 • Knowledge and understanding of current developments and best practice in SEN legislation and all aspects of inclusion and pastoral care • Proven experience in effective liaison with a range of outside agencies • Knowledge of the range and types of interventions available • The effective management of provision for SEN • Understanding of child protection procedures and safeguarding children • Ability to use performance data to inform provision mapping and planning • Produce and update CAF forms, EHC plans and other statutory documents • Ability to deal sensitively with people • Ability to communicate effectively, taking into account the views of others, including effective oral and written communication and excellent presentation skills • Ability to organise work effectively, prioritising and managing time, working under pressure to meet deadlines and setting personal goals • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to equality of opportunity for all students • A commitment to inclusive education and a willingness to respond to the needs of all learners • Reliability, professionalism and integrity • Strong interpersonal, written and oral skills with the ability to deal confidently with a range of people including Senior Leadership, staff, parents and pupils • An effective team member with the ability to use own initiative when appropriate Start date: September 2025 - Interviews to be held within a few weeks
