Job Description
We have 2 posts available across the Mid‑East of the County to support schools and families to improve education engagement and to reduce exclusions.
The Role
Cornwall’s Education Welfare Service comprises the Early Intervention & Inclusion Team, the Attendance team and the Engagement team. These vacancies sit within the Early Intervention team and will be 12‑month Fixed Term Contracts. The role involves working directly with children and young people, their parents and carers, and with school professionals to identify, assess, challenge and follow up on the needs of children where there is concern or duty in relation to school attendance, behaviour, achievement and general welfare. The focus is on reducing suspensions and exclusions across Cornwall and on supporting the local authority’s duties concerning school attendance and child welfare under the Education Acts and the 1989 Children Act.
Responsibilities
* Support education settings with consistent and clear responses following referral to the Early Intervention & Inclusion Team (EIIT).
* Assist the Senior Education Effectiveness Officer and Early Intervention Lead in improving belonging and inclusion and reducing suspensions and exclusions across the county.
* Support the EIIT referral process, ensuring responses to case allocation are timely and appropriate.
* Liaise with colleagues across Together for Families and Cornwall Council wider services to support a multi‑agency approach and follow up agreed actions in a timely manner.
* Act as the first point of contact for settings once a case has been allocated.
* Collaborate with the Senior Education Effectiveness Officer and EIIT Lead to share good practice, arrange and deliver training, and work with settings, particularly with pupils excluded from or at risk of exclusion from school.
Working Pattern
Fixed term contract for 12 months, 37 hours per week, Term Time Only. The role is hybrid with a mix of home working, office working and school/home visits.
What You’ll Need To Succeed
Degree level training or equivalent, with a background in education, social care, health or youth work. Statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies. Enhanced criminal record disclosure check required.
