Building Services Engineer

Sustainable Energy Ltd is a leading independent UK energy and engineering consultancy specialising in low-carbon heating and district energy networks. We are seeking a skilled Building Services Engineer to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and coordination of mechanical and electrical services for plant rooms and associated building services.
Key Responsibilities include:
* Develop detailed mechanical and electrical designs for heating plant rooms and building services, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements to RIBA/BSRIA Stages 3 & 4
* Produce design documentation and construction drawings, including schematics, general arrangement drawings, technical specifications, and schedules
* Work with CAD, Revit and SketchUp tools to deliver coordinated designs
* Undertake heat load, cooling load, and pipework/ductwork/ventilation sizing calculations.
* Collaborate with other internal teams (including low-carbon energy consultants) to achieve coordinated, efficient solutions.
* Carry out site surveys to assess and record existing plant room arrangements and heating and hot water distribution systems, including risers and laterals, and heat emitters etc
* Support tendering processes, providing technical input, and reviewing contractor/subcontractor proposals.
* Ensure designs meet all relevant regulations (Building Regulations, CIBSE, IET, HSE) and sustainability targets
* Manage the delivery of design projects and the development of contractor procurement packs
* Client-facing position with clear, detailed communication required throughout the project cycle
* Managing soft market testing exercises with contractors and developing cost estimates
* Able to manage different projects simultaneously
* Chairing client/project meetings, taking and issuing meeting minutes, and managing input from project team colleagues
* Contributing to the development of tender bids and quotations
* Delegating tasks to the wider project team
* Developing and training junior staff
* Line management of junior staff, including work experience students and interns
* Other duties and tasks as required
This role will involve supporting projects across all stages of development from feasibility and concept design through to detailed design and construction support.

Key Skills & Experience Required
* Degree or HND/HNC in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
* Proven experience in the design of plant rooms and building services systems (mechanical and electrical)
* Chartership or working towards (CIBSE, IMechE, IET) is desirable but not essential
Desirable
* Have experience in renewable/low carbon energy generation and distribution
* Chartership with a relevant professional institution (IMechE, CIBSE, Energy Institute, ETC)
Some work outside normal office hours and travel to client sites throughout the UK may be required.
