Milk Education is offering an excellent opportunity for Psychology graduates in the Middlesbrough area who are looking to begin or develop a career in education and child-focused support roles.
You will work in a supportive school environment, helping children with Autism and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This role provides meaningful, hands-on experience for those interested in educational psychology, social work, therapy, or other child-focused professions.
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will support pupils individually and in small groups, helping them engage in learning, build confidence and develop socially and emotionally within a structured and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide personalised support to pupils with Autism, learning difficulties and other SEND
2. Assist with implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies
3. Promote pupils’ emotional, social and academic development through positive reinforcement and engaging activities
4. Collaborate with teachers and other professionals to deliver inclusive teaching approaches
5. Support personal care needs when required (training provided)
6. Observe and record pupil progress, sharing updates with teachers and parents
7. Contribute to a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment
Requirements:
8. A degree in Psychology or a related field
9. Experience working with children or young people with Autism or SEND is desirable but not essential
10. A genuine passion for supporting children with additional learning needs
11. Patience, empathy, and a proactive, non-judgmental approach
12. Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents
13. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
14. Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
