Job Overview
Greenshaw High School is a highly over-subscribed 11 to 18 mixed comprehensive secondary school situated in Sutton, South West London. We are proud of our strong local reputation, having over 4,000 applications for 300 places in September 2024.

In October 2024 the hard work of our students and staff was recognised by Ofsted. The inspection team described the school as offering "an exceptional standard of education", using the words "flourishing, "inclusive" and "friendly" to describe our school. In the report Quality of Education, Behaviour & Attitudes, Sixth Form and Leadership & Management were all graded as Outstanding.

We have a very diverse population of students, offering a comprehensive range of opportunities for colleagues who work here. Our students - of all groups - have done incredibly well over the last few years, with our GCSE achievement always being at least in the top 20% of the country, and over 60 Sixth Form students attending Russell Group universities each year.

We are looking for a Teacher of Art and Design. This is an exciting opportunity to join GLT / Greenshaw High School and become an integral member of the Art and Design department.

While this is a permanent Teacher of Art and Design role, there will also be an element of teaching Food. The successful candidate will therefore need to be able to teach Food up to Key Stage 3 (Key Stage 4 is desirable).

Art and Design at Greenshaw is an integral and fundamental curriculum area. All Art and Design subjects are taught by a range of enthusiastic, motivated and well qualified specialists and it is a popular and thriving department.

We provide a termly carousel of subjects in years 7, 8 and 9 in which students follow the separate disciplines of Art and Design covering Fashion and Textiles, 3-D design and Graphic Design all with an emphasis on Art and the contextual setting. Students start Key Stage 4 courses in year 10 and we offer GCSEs in Art, Fashion and Textiles, Graphics, 3-D Design and Photography. Results are consistently good and student retention for Key Stage 5 courses are high. As a unique feature, we offer a full range of specialisms at A-level; Art, Fashion Textiles, Graphic Design, Photography and 3-D design. Results are consistently outstanding with a minimum of 75% of students in creative classes achieving grades A* to B grades.

The Art and Design department consists of 9 well equipped specialist rooms, including 2 fashion rooms, 2 3D workshops, and 2 computer rooms with the full adobe suite for student use. Many of our students choose to continue with an Art or Design pathway into further education or employment and we are proud of our success in placing students onto some of the best art foundation courses and degree courses in the country. Last year we placed over 20 Sixth Form students on related Higher Education courses.

Greenshaw Learning Trust is a highly successful multi academy trust that provides excellent quality, comprehensive and inclusive education through primary schools and secondary schools. Our schools are based in London, Surrey, Berkshire, Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire, Bristol and Plymouth. We also have three shared service hubs where our central teams can be based out of. We are building a family of like-minded schools, that collaborate to provide mutual support, share their good practice and learn from each other, whilst retaining and developing their own distinctive character. We thrive from collaboration at every level. We encourage a culture of sharing ideas and learning from one another. As a Trust of schools, we are 'Always Learning'.
