Job Description Psychiatry Consultant (CAMHS) Overview We are working with an NHS Trust in search of a dynamic and compassionate Psychiatry Consultant with expertise in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). This role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young lives, work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, and contribute to advancements in mental healthcare. As a key member of the team, you will provide holistic, patient-centred care and support for children and adolescents facing mental health challenges. The Trust is committed to fostering a culture of diversity, equality, and inclusion and welcomes applications from candidates of all backgrounds. Responsibilities Provide expert psychiatric consultation, diagnosis, and treatment for children and adolescents with mental health concerns. Develop individualised, evidence-based treatment plans, incorporating psychotherapy, medication, and integrated care approaches where appropriate. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists, nurses, social workers, and educational professionals, to deliver comprehensive mental health services. Act as a clinical leader, offering guidance and supervision to junior doctors and other healthcare professionals in the CAMHS team. Actively participate in and contribute to case discussions, clinical audits, and continuing professional development (CPD) initiatives. Engage with families to provide education, guidance, and support in understanding diagnoses and treatment options. Advocate for the mental health needs of young patients within schools, community organisations, and other settings. Remain up-to-date with the latest research, guidelines, and best practices in child and adolescent psychiatry. Promote a safe, inclusive, and non-judgemental space for all children, adolescents, and their families. Qualifications Essential: A medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC). Completion of higher specialist training in psychiatry, with a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or eligibility for GMC specialist registration. Proven experience working in CAMHS or an equivalent setting. Strong diagnostic and clinical skills, particularly in areas such as mood disorders, ADHD, PTSD, autism spectrum conditions, self-harm, and eating disorders in young people. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to empathy, sensitivity, and patient advocacy. A genuine commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in clinical practice and within the workplace. Desirable: Academic or research experience in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry. Experience in delivering training or teaching to healthcare professionals or external stakeholders. Familiarity with innovative service models that improve access to mental health care (e.g., digital interventions, community outreach programmes). Day-to-Day Duties Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and assessments of young patients, ensuring a clear understanding of presenting concerns. Develop and implement treatment strategies in liaison with patients, families, and team members. Monitor the effectiveness of treatments and make adjustments as required while maintaining open lines of communication with families. Participate in team meetings, care planning sessions, and clinical supervision activities. Provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff, guiding them in both clinical and professional development. Engage in reflective practices to ensure continuous personal and professional growth. Document patient interactions and treatment plans in compliance with regulatory and organisational requirements. Identify and address potential health inequalities or barriers to care, promoting access for all patients. This is an incredible opportunity for a compassionate and skilled professional seeking to impact the mental health and wellbeing of children and adolescents. Join the team in empowering young minds and helping them thrive! Ready to take the next step in your career? Apply today and make a difference in the lives of young people!
