A Vacancy at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.


Applications are invited for the post of a Locum Consultant in Haematology sub-speciality interest in acute leukaemia and TYA patients (10PA). This post is to commence 18 September 2025 for a period of 12 months. The post holder will also take part in the haemato-oncology on call out of hours rota and the inpatient attending service. It also includes serving as the haematology representation to the regional immunoglobulin replacement panel.

The post holder will be expected to work collaboratively with Consultant colleagues to provide care to patients with malignant disorders. Inpatient work will occur as part of a malignant attending rota and will incorporate managing teenage and young adult patients and potentially patients undergoing stem cell transplants and CAR-T. Outpatient work will include two weekly multidisciplinary meetings and 2-3 clinics covering leukaemia, teenage young adult patients and post stem cell transplant care.

Strong links exist between the clinical service, the academic department and the haemato-oncology diagnostic service in Cambridge and there are numerous teaching and research opportunities throughout the department including an active clinical trials portfolio. The post will currently be based full time in Addenbrooke’s which is at the heart of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, the largest centre for biomedical research in Europe. CUH has been an NHS commissioned CAR-T centre since 2020, and there is an active cellular therapy trials portfolio.

Funding has been agreed to build the separate Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital, which will include haematology, with a projected completion date in 2029.

Applicants are required to be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.
