ClinicalVascular Scientist:
Purpose ofRole:
* Undertakeclinical work as a practitioner maintaining best standards ofpractice.
* Maintain specialist clinicalcompetence and be responsible in all areas ofwork.
* Promote patient care and advocacy at alltimes.
* To represent the professional nature ofthe vascular department by working in other areas of the Trust asrequired and appropriate.
* Ensure thatindividually and collectively the department is up to date in bestpractice by maintaining professional development and equipmentcompetency.
* Work as part of the weekend TIADoppler service with colleagues Actively develop the vascularSonography services and participate in research and auditprogrammes with colleagues.
* Manage staff andresources effectively to promote patient advocacy for inpatientoutpatient and emergencycases.
KeyResponsibilities:
* Tomaintain a high professional and technical standard of work at alltimes.
* To be responsible for the safe conductof any examination and welfare of the patient maintaining a highstandard of patient care and acting as an advocate forpatients.
* To ensure that protocols in operationwithin the vascular department are adheredto.
* To work as part of a professional team andindividually when required.
* To actively manageand coordinate the patient workload day today.
* Ensure all work areas are maintained asclean tidy and safe environments.
* Toparticipate in service improvement programs by conductingaudits.
* To actively participate in thecontinuous updating of imaging protocols with the help of clinicalaudits and evidencebased practice.
* Toappropriately utilise such protocols and ensure that any changesare communicated to the rest of the vascularteam.
* To help train medical staff and anycolleagues on training programmes.
* To work aspart of the weekend TIA doppler service and ensure the rota forthis is planned 6 weeks in advance.
* To ensurethat all equipment is maintained and to use it at all times in asafe and professional manner.
* To ensure thatequipment maintained by Biomedical Engineering (BME) isappropriately and routinely tested with corrective actioninstigated.
* To undertake clinical work as anadvanced practitioner vascular sonographer Trust wide as requiredworking within own scope of practice and within departmentalpolicies and protocols.
* To work as part of aprofessional team and individually when required to maintain a highprofessional and technical standard of work at all times and beresponsible for the safe conduct of any examination and welfare ofthe patient in the care of the postholder.
* Ensure that individually andcollectively the department is up to date in best practice bymaintaining professional development and actively develop vascularsonography services and participate in research and auditprogrammes.
* To interpret and report on theinformation obtained from the sonography examination in relation toa range of patient conditions to provide clinicians with clinicalinformation and when appropriate suggest a diagnosis or furthersuitable diagnostic tests.

* To record and report all suspectedfaults to the Vascular Lead and Biomedical Engineering (BME)appropriate action taken.
* To actively assist inany Quality Assurance Clinical Governance Risk Management and Auditprogrammes as required.
* To maintain effectiveliaison with all staff groups within Diagnostic Imaging and allservice users.
* To observe all safetyregulations with particular regard to vascular sonographysafety.
* To assist in monitoring of imagequality on a dailybasis.
