Join Our Team as a Personal Advisor - Supporting Young People Towards Independence

Make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people aged 16-25 who are currently in or have left the care of the Local Authority. As a Personal Advisor within the Leaving Care Team, you'll play a vital role in helping young people navigate their journey to independence. This position is shaped by the principles of the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 and the Children and Social Work Act 2017, ensuring that every young person receives the support, guidance, and advocacy they deserve. This is a 25.9 hour role and may be duty‑based or a bespoke Personal Advisor role.

What will you be doing?

* Be allocated to individual young people and help assess and develop their Pathway Plans, which outline aspirations in education, housing, health, relationships, and more.
* Provide personalised support to all care leavers, focusing on the distinct needs of separated young people and the potential impact of their immigration status.
* Work collaboratively with the Practice Manager, Team Manager, colleagues and partner agencies to enhance service delivery and outcomes for our young people.
* Represent the Leaving Care Service at participation events, Care Council meetings, and contribute to a vibrant programme of skills‑based activities for young people.
* Work within a duty rota system to ensure consistent support across the service to our young people.

About You

* Have a strong understanding of legislation relating to looked‑after children and care leavers.
* Be familiar with the needs and legal context of separated young people.
* Have substantial experience working with young people aged 16‑25 in either a professional or voluntary capacity.
* Be able to build meaningful relationships with young people, including those who may be harder to engage.
* Be flexible and willing to work evenings or travel outside the county to meet young people’s needs.
* Be a strong team player.

This role involves travel across the county to various locations. You must be able to travel independently and reliably to meet the needs of the role.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore subject to an enhanced DBS certificate. It is also a regulated activity and will be subject to a Barred List check.
