SEN Class Teacher (Secondary)

Location: Pilning, Bristol
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week

Protocol Education is working closely with a specialist school in Pilning to recruit an experienced Secondary SEN Class Teacher, with a whole-school focus on Maths.

About the school

The school supports children and young people aged 7–19 with autism and associated social communication needs. Pupils are supported through a calm, structured and nurturing environment, with a strong emphasis on life skills, independence and preparing for adulthood.

Learning pathways include GCSEs, Functional Skills, Entry Level and vocational accreditations. Behaviour across the school is well supported, with staff working collaboratively alongside pastoral, clinical and SEND teams to ensure pupils feel safe, understood and ready to learn.

The role

This is a fantastic opportunity for an inspirational and engaging Secondary SEN Class Teacher who enjoys making a real difference.

You’ll deliver high-quality teaching to pupils with autism and additional needs such as ADHD, OCD and PDA. Some pupils may also have multiple learning difficulties. Progress here isn’t just academic, you’ll support pupils’ social and emotional development, helping them grow into confident, resilient learners.

Alongside teaching, you’ll take a lead role in Maths across the school, supporting consistency, progression and high standards.

You’ll also:

1. Plan and deliver lessons across a range of accreditation pathways

2. Support pupils to develop independence in and beyond the classroom

3. Line-manage and support Teaching Assistants and HLTAs

4. Work closely with pastoral, clinical and SEND professionals

5. Follow and uphold safeguarding, wellbeing and equality policies

6. Be flexible and ready to support the wider school community when needed

What we’re looking for

The school is looking for someone who understands SEN and genuinely enjoys working in specialist settings.

You’ll need:

7. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

8. Experience teaching Maths at KS3 and KS4

9. Experience delivering GCSE, Functional Skills or Entry Level Maths and English

10. A strong understanding of autism and how it impacts learning

11. Confidence adapting the curriculum to meet individual needs

12. Knowledge of visual strategies and approaches for anxious or reluctant learners

13. Experience working with or leading a small team of support staff

14. A calm, nurturing and consistent approach
