Description: Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent
If you have ever travelled on the roads around Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland then we've been helping you to get to your destination as quickly and safely as possible. Leicester's Area Traffic Control centre uses the latest traffic control techniques and state of the art technology to manage and maintain the network of traffic signals and associated traffic control infrastructure around the city, county and into Rutland. Our Control Room team are often the first point of call for people who are experiencing problems on our highway network and using an extensive network of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras they act as first responders to incidents ranging from breakdowns, accidents, things falling from vehicles, people or animals on the roads to severe weather. We have to be ready to respond to anything and everything using our Urban Traffic Control (UTC) systems to actively change traffic control strategies in real time and get the roads moving again. At the same time, we try to influence driver behaviour by broadcasting travel information to the public via social media and our dynamic roadside signs. Not only is our Control Room our eyes and ears on the road, but our Control Room team also monitors hundreds of assets constantly, responding to faulty equipment and coordinating teams of engineers and contractors to ensure that our highway network is working as efficiently as possible. It’s safe to say that no two days are alike at Area Traffic Control. Outside of our Control Room operations, our experienced team delivers traffic signal and CCTV maintenance, traffic signal design and engineering and Intelligent Transport Systems services to a range of internal and external clients.
