Are you ready to be part of the future? At QinetiQ, we’re not just imagining tomorrow; we are creating it. From cutting-edge defence technology to ground-breaking innovations, our mission is to empower and protect lives. Join us as a Maritime Structural Engineer at our Rosyth site, where you will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in partnership with some of the most brilliant minds.

The Role

As an Associate Maritime Structural Engineer, you will be working on a major programme of work for QinetiQ, delivering test and evaluation consultancy services in the area of hydrodynamics, submarine escape and evacuation, and maritime structures.

Day-to-day, you'll be a key part of the team delivering technical projects related to the design and analysis of submarine structures. The role will include using numerical tools (FEA, Matlab, Python) to look into various aspects of submarine structures, enabling the current UK fleet to operate and improve the tools and design for future platforms.

While the role has a specific focus, there will be opportunities to be involved in the group’s wider work streams, which include propulsor and propeller design, dynamic stability, quasi-static stability, seakeeping, and the resistance and propulsion of surface ships and submarines.

Responsibilities

* Provide effective leadership and coordination of the engineering and technical activities to deliver specific projects
* Combine subject matter expertise and sound engineering judgement to solve problems
* Breakdown complex tasks and then execute the planned schedule of work
* Manage the project/programme to undertake the work within the agreed quality, timescale, and budget
* Give technical presentations and talk knowledgeably about the work conducted in external forums, including conferences and in customer meetings

Essential Experience

* Experience with Finite Element Analysis
* Understanding of structural assessment, preferably maritime structures

Essential Qualifications

* BEng / MEng in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a relevant field

We value difference and don’t have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education. Provided you can demonstrate the required level of experience and willingness to learn, we would like to hear from you.

Working Hours

This role is 37 hours per week based at Rosyth.
