Overview
The post holder will be working within a busy team alongside registered mental health nurses and be supported by the Team Manager, Senior Clinical Lead/CBT Practitioner, and team administrators. Post holders will have a high level of autonomy working across designated GP practices, managing their own clinics and providing mental health assessments and evidence‑based treatment for people aged over 18. The role involves complex common mental health needs and stable, predictable and enduring serious mental health needs. The candidate will develop and manage all aspects of the service, such as waiting lists according to local need, working within the parameters of the service operational policy.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide GP consultation, liaison, education and training; attend GP practice meetings at least twice a year to discuss the service, seek feedback and report issues to the team leader.
* Autonomously manage high volumes of referrals; work on own initiative in a busy and demanding service and manage change effectively.
* Act as the first clinical point of contact for the service, effectively screening, assessing and working with service users with complex common mental health needs and stable, predictable and enduring serious mental health needs; exercise judgement to identify and assess healthcare needs and consider range of options for treatment.
* Deliver primary care recovery‑focused psychological interventions that meet the needs of service users who are too complex and/or not suitable for Talking Therapies yet do not meet the threshold for the Psychological Therapies in secondary care mental health.
* Support GP surgeries in the management of service users on depot medication; assist primary care with identifying early warning signs, relapse signatures, follow‑up appointments following non‑attendance and re‑referral back to secondary mental health services where indicated.
* Carry a clinical case load and undertake specific administrative and preceptor tasks, including record keeping, inputting activity data, audit and participating within business and service development meetings.
Qualifications and Experience
* Registered Mental Health Nurse with a passion for making a positive impact on people’s lives.
* Experience of working in primary care or a community mental health setting; ability to deliver person‑centred and recovery‑focused model of care.
* Strong communication skills; able to work collaboratively with GPs, practice nurses and other community professionals.
* Evidence of delivering NICE guidance interventions and brief psychological therapies to adults over the age of 18.
* Experience of managing a clinical case load and undertaking preceptor duties such as audit, record keeping and business development meetings.
