Job Title:\n\n Managing Director\n\n Sector:\n\nCivil Engineering / Infrastructure / Highways\n\n Salary:\n\n Competitive + Profit-Based Bonus\n\n Location:\n\n North West England\n Salary:\n\n Starting £100k+\n\nA well-established and reputable civil engineering contractor based in the North West is seeking\nan experienced, hands-on Managing Director to take full ownership of the business’s day-to-day\nand strategic operations. Specialising in road surfacing and infrastructure works, the company\nhas a strong presence in the regional market.\nThis is a unique opportunity for a commercially minded leader with direct sector experience to\nstep into a role that offers real autonomy and influence. The ideal candidate will treat the\nbusiness as their own, overseeing everything from staff management and project delivery to\ncustomer relationships and financial performance.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nLeadership & Strategy\n● Provide strategic direction and day-to-day leadership across all business areas.\n● Set and execute a long-term vision for growth, operational improvement, and market expansion.\n● Report directly to the owner or board and act as the figurehead of the business.\n\nOperational Management\n● Oversee the delivery of civil engineering and resurfacing projects from tender through to completion.● Ensure all works are completed to a high standard, safely, on time, and within budget.\n● Drive operational efficiencies across the business and supply chain.\n\nFinancial Oversight\n● Full P&L ownership, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.\n● Monitor key performance metrics and implement corrective action where necessary.\n● Identify and deliver margin improvement opportunities.\n\nTeam & Workforce Leadership\n● Lead, develop, and motivate a skilled team of operational, commercial, and support staff.\n● Foster a culture of accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.\n● Ensure effective workforce planning and training strategies are in place.\n\nClient & Stakeholder Management\n● Maintain and strengthen existing client relationships.\n● Lead business development and tendering efforts to secure new work.\n● Represent the business in meetings with clients, suppliers, and industry partners.\n\nRequirements:\n\n● Proven experience in a senior leadership role within civil engineering, highways, or surfacing.\n● Strong commercial acumen with a track record of P&L management, growth delivery, and strategic leadership.\n● Deep understanding of civil engineering, health and safety legislation, and local authority\nframeworks.● A hands-on, practical leadership style—comfortable working at both strategic and operational levels.\n● Excellent interpersonal and client management skills.\n● A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience is preferred.\n● Entrepreneurial mindset – treats the business as their own.\n● Strong leadership presence with a collaborative, performance-driven approach.\n● Results-oriented with the ability to lead change and drive growth.\n\nWhat’s on Offer:\n\n● A rare opportunity to run and grow a respected civil engineering business.\n● Competitive salary and performance bonus (Profit Share).\n● Full ownership over operational and strategic decision-making
