Salary: £38,934 - £39,855 per annum
Contract: Permanent | Full-time - 37 hours per week
Location: Based across Family Hubs within Redbridge
The Role
The London Borough of Redbridge is seeking a skilled and committed Family Support Worker to join the Family Help Service within the Community Children's Team. You will provide early intervention and direct support to families with children aged 0-18 to reduce risk, improve outcomes and prevent escalation to statutory services.
Working collaboratively with social workers, early help practitioners and other professionals, you will carry out home visits, lead structured family support sessions, and contribute to assessments and plans that promote child wellbeing and safety.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide practical and emotional support to families experiencing a range of challenges, including parenting difficulties, housing issues, school attendance concerns and domestic stress.
2. Undertake direct work with children and parents both in the home and in community settings.
3. Support the delivery of parenting programmes, workshops, and group interventions.
4. Assist in the development and review of family support plans and contribute to multi-agency assessments.
5. Work closely with professionals across education, health, and social care to ensure coordinated service delivery.
6. Maintain clear and accurate case records and participate in supervision, training, and team meetings.
Requirements
7. Relevant qualification at NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in social care, childcare, education or a related field.
8. Experience of working directly with vulnerable families, preferably in a community or early help setting.
9. A strong understanding of child development, safeguarding principles, and the Early Help framework.
10. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
11. The ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
12. Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends to meet the needs of families.
13. A valid UK driving licence is desirable but not essential.
What Redbridge Offers
14. A supportive team within an Ofsted-rated Outstanding service.
15. Regular supervision and access to training and professional development.
16. Opportunities to contribute to innovative approaches in family support and early intervention.
17. Generous annual leave and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.
