Head
PGA Pro and Golf Operations Manager | Another Place, The Machrie | The Machrie
Islay Golf
Wild coastlines, big skies
and a close-knit island community set the rhythm of daily life on Islay. The
roll of waves, breeze-blown dune grasses, and call of seabirds make up a rich
island soundtrack. It’s a haven for people who live and breathe the outdoors.
Exhilarating and revitalising, vibrant and relaxed - the wonder of the wilds
here is limitless.
Set within this captivating landscape lies Another Place – The Machrie.
Originating from the Gaelic term ‘machair’, meaning ‘the linking stretch of
land that joins the grassy dunes with the shoreline’, The Machrie offers
elevated comforts and unforgettable experiences.

On almost every hole, a
well-placed tee shot offers a clear view of the green and flag. Miss the ideal
line, however, and the challenge quickly increases, calling for care and
creativity…
Set on idyllic links terrain, featuring unique dunelands bordering on the
magnificent Laggan Bay, our Championship Links Golf Course offers four
sets of tees, is suitable for all handicaps, and offers generous fairways.
An original Willie Campbell design dating back to 1891 and redesigned in 2018
by David J. Russell to modern championship standards, our iconic course
stretches over 7000 yards from the back tees and is designed to be playable in
all conditions.
The Machrie Islay offers plenty of variety and tests every aspect of the golf
game. It’s this balance of precision and nerve that keeps our members and
guests engaged, tested, and eager to return for more.
Due to our remote location on Islay, you will require a valid driving license and access to a personal vehicle. Team accommodation is also available, though it is not designed for family occupancy, making this role most suitable for an individual applicant.
