Overview
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
The shift pattern for this post is 40 hours per week plus 1:25 on call with North Psychiatry rota. Join our dynamic Older Adult Mental Health team at Cairnmhor Resource Centre, Dumbarton Joint Hospital, Dumbarton, part of Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Scotland's largest health board.
This role includes quality improvement, teaching, training, and research opportunities. It features 10 sessions predominantly in a community role. The post includes 1 session for acute hospital liaison to the Vale of Leven, a small District General Hospital with mostly geriatric beds and no A&E department. There is a liaison nurse and another consultant and specialty doctor sharing liaison cover.
There is an expectation to be part of the North Glasgow rota on-call (1:25 at least). The on-call almost always has a second on higher trainee up to 3am each day.
The CMHT is located on Dumbarton Joint Hospital site. The post admits into acute psychiatric beds within the Vale of Leven Hospital. There is no RMO responsibility for inpatients for this post, with the complex care and acute beds overseen by two other consultant old age psychiatrists.
The successful applicant will play a key role in the clinical leadership of the CMHT and liaison service, diagnosing and managing those with severe and enduring mental health conditions in older adults, including some young onset dementia patients, supported by consultant psychiatry colleagues and the wider MDT.
This is a full-time post but applications will be considered for those wishing to work fewer sessions or flexibly. There may also be the option for additional EPA depending on service requirement, which would be agreed through job planning.
