We require a Vice Principal to join our team of creative, supportive and dynamic staff at Earl Mortimer College. The school is focused on providing a high level of education for all children and ensuring that every child has access to the same opportunities.

The core purpose of the job is to:

• Contribute to the leadership of the school, assisting the Principal to secure its success and improvement

• Manage the day-to-day operation of the school and ensure all students will benefit from high quality education

• Create and implement a shared vision for school development

• Contribute to work within the wider school community to ensure agreed objectives and operational plans promote and sustain school improvement

• Motivate and work with others to develop a shared culture and positive climate with a focus upon collaboration and partnership working

• Assist in the strategic planning process, taking into account the diversity, values and experience of the school and community

• To deputise in the absence of the Principal, as required

Key Areas of Responsibility: Leading on Students’ Behaviour & Attitudes (the Pastoral System)

• Implement inclusive strategies that ensure high standards of appropriate student behaviour, discipline and attendance

• Ensure a consistent and continuous whole school focus on students’ attitude to learning, using data and benchmarks to monitor progress

• Develop appropriate interventions for students requiring further support to meet behaviour expectations, for example Pastoral Support Plans

• Develop the House system to promote an inclusive school community where all students can achieve success and positive outcomes

• Monitor, evaluate and review classroom practice related to behaviour for learning, promoting strategies to meet individual needs including tutor times

• Develop the school’s existing approach to alternative provision, securing appropriate placements for those students who require additional support to achieve positive outcomes

• Ensure that Reflection and the Hub operate smoothly on a day to day basis with appropriate plans in place for each student

• Challenge inconsistencies in behaviour management at all levels and ensure effective action in follow up

• Develop an appropriate Careers strategy in response to individual student needs, to ensure all the Gatsby Benchmarks are met

• Line management of Assistant Principal Inclusion, Heads of House, Heads of Faculty as identified

Developing Self and Working with Others

Managing effective relationships and communication with colleagues is an important skill for the Vice Principal post. The Vice Principal will need to be committed to their own professional development in order to deal with the complexity and demands of the role, and also to support staff to achieve high standards through performance management and continuous professional development.

Managing the Organisation

The Vice Principal provides effective organisation and management of the school and seeks ways to improve organisation structures and functions, based on rigorous self-evaluation. The Vice Principal should ensure that the school the people and resources within it are organised and managed to provide an efficient and safe learning environment. The Vice Principal should also seek to build a successful organisation through effective collaborations with others.

Securing Accountability

All leaders have a responsibility to the school community and are accountable to a wide range of groups, including students, parents/carers, governors and the Local Authority. They are accountable for ensuring that students enjoy and benefit from a high quality education, for promoting collective responsibility within the whole school community and for contributing to the education service more widely.

• Demonstrate a commitment to the values and principles which underpin the school and to continuous improvement in all aspects of its work

• Contributing to a shared vision by being a positive role model, demonstrating high professional standards

• Enjoying working with other people, seeking to develop as part of a team as well as individually.

• Demonstrating a commitment to quality in every aspect of school life, being prepared to go the extra mile in the interest of the students and families connected to the school

• Attend relevant Governors’ meetings

• Take assemblies and carry out SLT duty responsibilities as required

• To undertake any other duties, commensurate within the grade, at the discretion of the Principal
