You will have a current Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).

Reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for managing the Transport Operations at a busy distribution centre. Responsible for a fleet of Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles, you will lead a team of Managers, Drivers, Trainers and Administrative Colleagues. This is an exciting leadership role; as the departmental head, you will be a key member of the site’s senior management team.

Responsibilities

* Operate and achieve the transport budget.
* Ensure legal compliance to DVSA standards.
* Coordinate internal and external audits.
* Influence, direct and support the management team to meet performance criteria and undertake activities that positively influence cost within the department.
* Lead, motivate and develop the Transport team through performance management to raise standards and achieve KPI targets for cost, service and people.
* Challenge under-performance and recognise good performance.
* Collate KPI figures weekly and produce period-end reports and action plans.
* Minimise driver overtime and use of agency drivers and subcontractors.
* Monitor repair and maintenance costs and keep them under control.
* Adopt best practices to minimise fuel usage and maximise kilometres per litre (KPL).
* Monitor absence and maximise all forms of revenue.
* Ensure timely supplier collections and on-time delivery performance.
* Maintain effective communications within the Transport department, the Distribution Centre and with Customers, including Supply Chain and branches.
* Regularly appraise and develop the management team via personal development plans.
* Develop a transport department culture that supports a "Great Place to Work" with colleague engagement and inclusion as a key focus.
* Implement succession planning and identify training needs to design/implement training plans.
* Ensure adherence to employment legislation and Company policy, including contracts of employment, discipline and grievance matters.
* Support the General Manager in managing the ER environment to protect the business and build effective relationships with site union representatives.


You will need

Technical Skills and Knowledge:

* Management experience within a unionised environment.
* Thorough knowledge of CPC accountabilities and legislative requirements.
* Experience in a customer service environment.
* Excellent PC and organisational skills.
* Methodical approach to figures and reporting.
* Understanding of people planning and scheduling processes.
* Knowledge of health, safety and legislative requirements.
* Developing self and others.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Experience

* CPC qualified.
* Minimum of 3 years senior manager experience in a best practice transport environment.
