About the Role

This role offers the successful candidate the opportunity to manage a busy, well-established branch within a highly successful independent merchant group. You will be responsible for leading the team, ensuring operational excellence, and delivering strong commercial results, while maintaining the branch’s reputation for outstanding customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage the day-to-day operations of an established branch, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and high standards of customer service.

Lead, motivate, and develop the branch team to achieve targets, foster engagement, and maintain a positive working culture.

Drive sales growth and profitability through effective customer relationship management and proactive business development.

Monitor financial performance, budgets, and stock control to optimise margins and operational efficiency.

Maintain strong relationships with suppliers, contractors, and key customers to support branch growth.

Promote and uphold the company’s values, culture, and commitment to quality in all branch activities.

Requirements / Skills:

Proven experience in a management role within a builders’ merchant, plumbers’ merchant, or similar trade environment.

Strong commercial acumen with a solid understanding of P&L management, budgeting, and stock control.

Demonstrable experience in managing and developing a team to deliver sales and operational targets.

A track record of driving sales performance and customer satisfaction within a wholesale or trade setting.

Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to maintain motivation and performance across an established team.

Good IT and systems literacy, with the ability to use internal systems and reporting tools effectively.

Desirable: Knowledge of plumbing and heating products.
