About us
Thorpe Hall Hospice is the only specialist palliative care inpatient unit in Peterborough. We provide care and support for people living with life-limiting conditions, as well as supporting their families.
About the Role
To manage a team of Registered nurses and Healthcare assistants, ensuring effective assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of high standards of holistic care for an identified group of service users.
Responsible for ensuring effective performance management of all clinical staff in line with Sue Ryder policies and procedures for recruitment, induction, development, supervision, appraisal, and discipline.
* The post holder holds line management responsibility for Registered nurses and may hold responsibility for Healthcare assistants.
* Responsible for working alongside and/or supporting volunteers within their team.
* Ensuring all service users (or their relatives if the service user is unable) are given opportunities to participate fully in the care planning process.
* Maintaining good communication and liaison with all other departments, both internal and external to Sue Ryder, including junior doctors on placement.
About you
The successful applicant must hold a current NMC registration. You will need to demonstrate a holistic approach to patient care, knowledge of palliative care, management experience, and contribute to service development. Experience in people management and team leadership is required. The role involves working various shifts covering a 24-hour service, mainly day shifts with occasional nights and weekends.
* Experience in specialist palliative or neurological care, depending on service requirements.
* Proven skills in leadership, influencing, and building teams in a clinical setting.
* Knowledge of current legislation within the independent care sector.
* Experience practicing in a self-directed and highly motivated way.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills, including communicating difficult messages to service users and families.
* Negotiation and conflict management skills.
* Ability to manage change and performance effectively.
* Ability to provide teaching and mentorship in a clinical setting.
