Overview
Technical Specialist - Ophthalmology (Part Time, Fixed Term) at University of Nottingham. The role provides specialist technical expertise in histology and aseptic techniques to enable the delivery of excellent research in Academic Ophthalmology within the School of Medicine’s Mental Health and Clinical Neuroscience.
Location and Salary
Location: Jubilee Campus. Salary: £35,116 to £46,735 per annum pro-rata depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.
Contract Details
Fixed-term contract for 24 months. Part-time.

Responsibilities
* Provide specialist technical expertise in histology and aseptic techniques to enable delivery of excellent research.
* Work with clinical ophthalmologists and research fellows on several projects on human corneas.
* Isolate, maintain and propagate primary cell lines; perform histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, histology, fluorescence labelling, and electron microscopy (scanning/transmission).
* Assist researchers to obtain high-quality data for publication.
* General day-to-day laboratory duties, equipment administration, maintenance, operation, and training for facility staff and users.
* Independently manage processes and projects; respond to changing priorities; oversee Academic Ophthalmology laboratories; liaise with senior staff and external companies; provide training and development for technicians, postgraduate researchers/fellows and visiting academics.
Qualifications/Skills
* Experience in aseptic technique, isolation and maintenance of primary cell lines; histology, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence labelling; electron microscopy.
* Ability to work independently, pro-active, good initiative, organizational and communication skills.
