Catherine Infant School is a large, thriving four-form entry infant school with a 60-place nursery, a 10-place Designated Specialist Provision (DSP) for pupils with communication and interaction needs, and a highly regarded Internal Alternative Provision (IAP) for 10–12 pupils with complex SEND. Located in the heart of Belgrave, we proudly serve a richly diverse community, with many pupils who have English as an Additional Language (EAL), significant SEND needs, and pupils who are new arrivals to the UK.
It is an exceptionally exciting time to join our school. In 2025 we moved into a brand-new, state-of-the-art building, offering outstanding learning environments, specialist spaces and resources to support inclusive practice at the highest level. We have recently been awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark, recognising our strong commitment to SEND and inclusive education.
The Role:
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative and compassionate SEND Teacher to lead our well-established Internal Alternative Provision, Galaxy Class. This provision has been successfully running for over seven years and has an excellent reputation for supporting pupils with complex needs.
You will take responsibility for teaching and leading learning for 10–12 pupils with SEND, ensuring every child has access to:
· A high-quality, nurturing learning environment
· A personalised and creative curriculum
· Targeted provision aligned to EHCPs and Individual Support Plans.
Working closely with the wider SEND team, including the DSP teacher and SENDCo, you will deliver high-quality teaching across EYFS and KS1, ensuring pupils make strong progress academically, socially and emotionally.
The ideal candidate will:
· Be passionate about special educational needs and committed to making a difference to individual pupils
· Have experience of working with children with SEND including communication and interaction difficulties including autism
· Be familiar with the EHCP process including annual reviews
· Show innovation in planning and teaching for significant SEND pupils
· Have the knowledge and experience of strategies to develop pupil’s communication and interaction skills e.g. PECS, TEACCH, now/next systems, objects of reference, visual prompts
· Have the ability to lead and inspire others
· Be able to manage a small, dedicated team
· Show enthusiasm and passion to lead and design the future of the provision
· Be able to support mainstream colleagues in supporting pupils with SEND
· Have a commitment to enhance their own and the CPD of others.
