Job overview

Full time Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Neurology with a responsibility in paediatric neurology for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

This post allows the clinical fellow to gain a broad experience in the sub-specialist training in Paediatric Neurosciences within a department providing a comprehensive, tertiary paediatric neurology service.
Nottingham Children’s Hospital. It is designed for a candidate who is post CCT in paediatrics and is planning a career in paediatric neurology at consultant level.

The post provides in-patient and outpatient experience in a busy tertiary centre. There are close working relationships with the Departments of Neuroradiology, Neurophysiology, Neurosurgery and Paediatric Intensive Care. Support and supervision will be available from senior colleagues at all times.

The Paediatric Neurology service within the Nottingham Childrens Hospital at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust provides secondary and tertiary care for more than 2.25 million total population; 450,000 children and young people.


Main duties of the job

The Paediatric Neurology service is provided across both campuses of the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, as well as in regional outreach clinics, but your primary base will be QMC.

Professional Registration

* Full GMC registration


Professional Qualifications/Development

* MRCP, MRCPCH or equivalent
* Higher professional degree - MSc, MPhil related discipline


Clinical Skills/Experience

* Experience in Paediatrics/Paediatric Neurology (or equivalent specialist training)
* Experience of teaching and presenting.
* Experience of audit activities
* Evidenced technical skills as described in the job description
* Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families and other health professionals.
* Specific training in communication skills
* Specific training in patient safety and/or human factors
* Published research in peer reviewed journals


Management Skills

* Able to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery.
* Able to work in a team
* Higher management degree or qualification or training
* Experience of change management


Personal Skills/Qualities

* Able to work flexibly in a changing health service
* Able to use the Trust’s IT support systems

Practical Requirements

* Ability to travel between City Hospital Campus and Queen’s Medical Centre campus

If you are aged 16 or 17 and applying for a role that is more than 20 hours a week, please be aware that you will be asked to commence an Apprenticeship within the Trust alongside your role, as long as there is a suitable apprenticeship standard available. This is in line with the current guidance in England that whilst young people under the age of 18 can leave school (on the last Friday in June) they must then do one of the following:

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

The system will run a check against the key security features within your documentation. The system will provide us with an outcome of your check which will be stored securely on your personal file along with all other pre-employment check documentation.

* Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service - I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Departmentconfidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations s and screening tests as relevant to the post. I understand this is an automated process and the information will only be used for these purposes prior to me taking up the position at NUH.
* Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£49.50 for enhanced and £21.50 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay). Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
