Duties as SEND Teaching Assistant: Provide full-time SEMH support for pupils across the school Work 1:1 and in small groups with pupils who present emotional and behavioural challenges Use de-escalation and regulation strategies to promote engagement Assist with learning tasks, modelling and reinforcing key skills Implement personalised behaviour and learning plans Support pupils during transitions, routines and unstructured times Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams and SEND staff Uphold safeguarding expectations and prioritise pupil welfare Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant: SEMH/EBD experience is essential Confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour Calm, patient, resilient and able to build strong, trusting relationships Skilled in behaviour management and emotional regulation techniques Strong communication and teamwork skills Able to follow guidance while using initiative when appropriate Reliable, proactive and committed to supporting pupil development Dedicated to safeguarding and promoting pupil well-being Why Step Teachers?
