About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced personal assistant for a loving young boy with Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder, and PICA. Jamie always requires full supervision as he will eat non-food items and has a compulsion regarding drinking. He currently resides with his mum, dad and sibling and they have 3 dogs. Jamie also has no awareness of danger and will run at every opportunity. Experience of working with children with autism is a necessary requirement for this role.
Jamie enjoys a variety of sensory stimulating activities including trampolining, swimming and trips to the local parks. He would like to visit and explore new venues with enclosed spaces to widen his experiences within the community. He uses a specialist buggy as and when required. Routine is very important to Jamie as he can dysregulate if sudden changes occur and due to his non-verbal autism, he cannot tell you directly what is wrong. Jamie uses hand gestures and leading to show and tell you, his needs. Jamie does have meltdowns so coping strategies to manage these must be demonstrated and implemented to ensure his safety.
Key Responsibilities
* Supporting Jamie to access the local community.
* Accompanying and supporting him to engage in his chosen activities.
* Providing personal care, including nappy changing.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Experience working with children with autism.
* Knowledge of managing sensory processing issues and safety.
* Experience with coping strategies for meltdowns.
* Preferred: full clean UK driving licence, but not essential as public transport can be used.
