A Design & Build Specialist Bridge team are looking for a Chartered Engineer to take on the role of Principal Engineer or Associate at the Leeds (Otley) office. You will take a leading role on some of the most technical Design & Build projects.
Recent designs include multi-span bridge structures, moveable bridges (which they are known specialists for), and large concrete culverts and bridges. Previous projects include Herring Bridge, a £m twin leaf bascule bridge. The Renfrew Bridge, a metre double cable stayed, swing bridge. And the Royal Canal Phase 2 Viaduct in Dublin City.
You would be joining a busy office of 25 engineers that have expertise in Highways Civils and Bridge engineering. All work mostly in the office and collaborate together on schemes. As a Chartered Engineer it will be your roles to lead your own small part of the team to deliver major projects like the ones mentioned. Whether you join as a Principal or Associate Engineer your role will slightly differ but you will in both be still very technically involved.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Working with both existing and new bridges and civil structures across a range of materials and forms, superstructure, substructure and articulation elements
2. Involvement at early project stages: scoping, specifying and interpreting surveys, inspection and investigative works, optioneering, scheme design
3. Detailed design: modelling, calculations, overseeing drawing production
4. Document preparation, including authoring technical reports, such as AIPs, specifications and contract documents
5. Reviewing the work of others: cat 3 checking, as a client representative and designer's site representative
6. Interfacing with clients from local and national authorities, consultants, and D&B contractors amongst others
7. Supporting graduate engineers as they progress towards chartership
Job Requirements
8. Minimum seven years' (senior engineer) / seven years' (principal engineer) professional experience
9. Chartered engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or equivalent
10. Detailed knowledge and experience in the use of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and other standards and legislation
