Job Overview

Do you have personal lived experience of recovery from mental and emotional distress? Do you have substantial professional experience in peer and lived experience working and training delivery within healthcare? Are you looking for an opportunity to join an established peer workforce in a leadership role in training and development? We are seeking an experienced peer worker/trainer to join CNWL’s Peer & Lived Experience Workforce as Deputy Team Lead for the Peer & Lived Experience Training Team.

To ensure the development and delivery of training for peer and lived experience workers across and beyond CNWL is provided in line with the principles and ethos of recovery and social inclusion, the Band 7 Deputy Peer & Lived Experience Training Team Lead will contribute their lived experience of recovery, professional experience as a peer support worker, peer trainer and peer supervisor, as well as their specialist knowledge and expertise in supporting the organisation to deliver recovery‑focused lived experience‑centric training opportunities, optimising the contribution of CNWL’s peer and lived experience workforce and meeting the requirements of our internal and external training provision.

Main duties of the job: The Deputy Peer & Lived Experience Training Team Lead will support the development of training packages, programmes and pathways for CNWL’s peer and lived experience workforce Trustwide and to external stakeholders, assuming deputised responsibility for the development, implementation and delivery of training in line with contractual obligations and workforce strategy aims. They will support and deputise for the Trustwide Peer & Lived Experience Training and Development Lead to ensure high quality training delivery is maintained and operational leadership is provided to the team. The Deputy will contribute to the Central Lived Experience Team, strategically planning and guiding training development, and providing professional supervision to the team. The Deputy will contribute to the development of our Senior Peer Development Programme, as well as have oversight of student and assignment support for our external training offer. They will work closely with the Trustwide Peer & Lived Experience Training & Development Lead and Training Team Administrator to ensure smooth and consistent delivery of our external peer training programme, and on regular monitoring and reporting on assigned KPIs to make sure team objectives are being met.

Person Specification


Education And Qualifications

* Completion of peer support training
* Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent skills
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Training qualification or significant equivalent experience


Previous experience

* Lived experience of recovery from mental and emotional distress, and experience of using statutory mental health services
* Significant experience of working in health and/or social care settings as a peer support worker (or equivalent lived experience professional role)
* Experience of working as a peer trainer (or equivalent experience in using own lived experience to inform training delivery)
* Experience of delivering mentoring and/or supervision/appraisal
* Experience of autonomous working
* Experience of working as part of a remote or hybrid team
* Experience in training evaluation and assessment
* Experience of managing resources e.g. financial, stock, equipment
* Experience of relationship building and partnership working


Other

* Ability to travel across the Trust by public transport


Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

* Skills in producing timely, accurate and informative reports and notes
* Demonstrable skills in effective leadership
* Ability to work autonomously, on own initiative and under pressure to meet deadlines and competing priorities, and to make and action decisions independently within agreed timeframes
* Understanding of the importance of equality and diversity
* Proficient use of systems of communication such as Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office, Outlook, telephone
* Ability to work remotely and as part of a hybrid team


Desirable Criteria

* Supervision training
* Coaching training
* Experience of working in an educational/learning and development environment
* Experience in managing complex HR issues with staff, e.g. the management of performance / long term sickness
* Experience in strategy development and delivery
* Experience of working as a Senior Peer Worker/Trainer or equivalent level role
* Experience of working with information technology to keep track of operational performance
* Experience in managing resources e.g. financial, stock, equipment
* Ability to chair/facilitate a meeting
* Knowledge of current legislation that underpins health and social care and a working knowledge of the Equalities Act 2010 and Human Rights Act
* Ability to design training packages for groups and individual needs; ensuring best practice and national guidelines are adhered to
