Arup helps the world manage its water, from the supply of clean drinking water to understanding flood risks, from drainage to sanitation. Across the UK, our multi-disciplinary water professionals support clients on projects ranging from national policy development, adaptive pathways strategies, strategic water resource and wastewater planning, and investment plans and strategic business cases.
The Opportunity
Our water business continues to grow in response to increasing market demand, supported by a diverse and expanding portfolio of strategic advisory projects. We work with a wide range of clients, including government bodies, infrastructure owners and operators, regulators, policy organisations and investors. Recent clients include Welsh Water, Wessex Water, Northern Ireland Water, Severn Trent Water, The Nature Conservancy, Ofwat, Natural Resources Wales and the Environment Agency.
We Are Seeking a Consultant To Join Our Dynamic Mid-West Strategic Water Services Team. You Will Be Motivated By The Opportunity To Drive Innovation, Provide High-quality Advice To Clients, And Shape The Future Of The Water Sector Through Impactful Projects And Thought Leadership. Our Team Provides Expertise Across
* Policy, regulation and governance
* Strategy and planning, including long-term strategies, adaptive plans, WRMP, DWMP and flood risk management strategies
* Asset management and investment planning

You will help deliver high-quality services to a variety of high-profile clients, advising on strategic, policy and economic issues across the water sector. You will also play an active role in managing relationships with public and private-sector clients, infrastructure operators and regulators.
What You’ll Do
Working collaboratively with colleagues across the UK and internationally, you will help deliver strategic advisory services for a range of clients in the water sector. You will contribute to research, analysis, client engagement and project delivery, helping to shape robust and forward-looking solutions.
Your Responsibilities Are Likely To Include
* Preparing clear, concise and compelling reports
* Liaising with clients and supporting effective stakeholder management
* Designing and facilitating workshops
* Solving technical problems and developing innovative solutions as your experience grows
* Conducting primary and secondary research, including data analysis
* Undertaking qualitative and quantitative assessments
* Managing delivery and budgets on small projects
* Supporting the preparation of bids and tenders
* Planning your workload to meet deadlines and maintain quality
* Using specialist tools such as ArcGIS
* Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across the UK and internationally
What We’re Looking For
As a consultant, you will contribute to a diverse range of strategic water projects across the UK and internationally. We are looking for an ambitious, driven and collaborative professional to join our teams in Bristol, Cardiff or Birmingham.
Requirements
* A minimum of a Master’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Geography, Science, Mathematics, Water Science or Policy, or a related discipline (candidates with or working towards Masters/PhDs encouraged but not essential)
* At least two years of relevant experience
* Strong reasoning and analytical skills
* Ability to interpret client and stakeholder needs
* Ability to take a strategic view on complex, multi-faceted issues
* Experience developing research methods and delivering research projects
* Confidence working independently and taking initiative
* A planned and organised approach to work and deadlines
* Adaptability to work across a broad range of environmental, engineering and design disciplines
* Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams
